I started the day excited to try out my new GPS tracker on my phone, but then on my first stop a sudden wind gust knocked over my new DJI camera and broke the screen. I took the train from Hamburg to Frankfurt, because I didn’t want to drive the entire distance. Regional trains are slow, it took me 7 hours, but the trip was covered by the Deutschland Ticket. In the evening I did some walks through the countryside. I visited the Limes in the Odenwald, which was the border between the Roman Empire and the Germans 2000 years ago and also did a walk around the “Felsenmeer” which was very nice. I slept 3 times at the A&O hostel, once in Stuttgart and twice in Frankfurt. I returned to Hamburg via Mahlwinkel on the 14th of June 2024. I took the high speed train ICE from Hamburg to Munich. The tickets were quite pricey, I paid about 50EUR for each direction of the trip. In Munich I stayed at the A&O Hostel. On Wednesday I spent the entire day moving from door-to-door pitching my software to potential clients. Unfortunately most of the people were not home. So of the 7 Stops I did, I only had two real interactions, of which I would say only one could be called kind of positive. I suppose many people are either on vacation right now, or midday is just not the best time to reach them at their house because they are at work. On the other hand I expect many of them to do home office work. Maybe early in the morning or in the evening would be better. Nonetheless, Bavaria is beautiful in summer and I had a good time and riding the high speed rail was also exciting. The last stop of my trip was Anzing, a pretty little town. The Schweinshaxe I had at the Augustinerkeller in Munich was delicious. This nice little city is a 1 hour train ride outside of Hamburg. After going there I continued my trip to Hildesheim and then via Braunschweig and Magdeburg to Berlin. Exhausted I arrived in Berlin at night. Unfortunately my 8-person Hostel room was so warm that I couldn’t fall asleep. So after tossing and turning for a long time in my bed, I decided at 2 AM in the morning to go to Berlin Main station and take the first train in the morning back to Hamburg. After a 5 hours train ride, I arrived in Hamburg at about 9 AM in the morning. Remember, I didn’t use high speed rail for this trip, but instead relied only on regional trains only which are included in my Deutschlandticket. In conclusion I will give Berlin a rest for a while, I am just not having any luck with that city. This time I went to Dortmund, Witten, Duisburg and Düsseldorf. All of these towns are in the west of Germany. The weather was very pleasant, which made it easy to walk around. I used the “Deutschlandticket” to move around only with public transport. Everything worked great and all trains and busses were on time, but it just took forever to get around. A car could have done most of the stops in probably half the time. Also I need to carry all my clothes and snacks with me in my backpack for days, which gets quite burdensome. So a car would have been very advantageous. On the second day of my trip I took a break and did a 20 km hike around a suburb of Dortmund, which also took me to the Ruhr river, which was beautiful. On the third day I continued my sales trip and even though the people at most of the addresses I visited weren’t home, I had one very pleasant interaction with a potential client. All in all I had a good time. Now I just need to improve my transportation. They have a research facility for CT Scanning there and its always very exciting to go there and check out their machines and talk about 3d ct Scanning. I had a few parts with me that needed to be 3d scanned and it went well, except for the steel parts, which are always a challenge to Ct scan. Its just that xrays have a really hard time penetrating steel and therefore the 3d scans didn’t turn out good. Later on Tuesday I returned to Regensburg and did a walk through the old town and across the bridge “Steinbrücke” over the Danube river. The weather was marvelous and I was able to record some very nice vistas. I also captured a shot of the cathedral for which Regensburg is famous, its their landmark I suppose. I went to Wittenberg, to Braunschweig and to Weimar. I drove the van through the Harz forest and slept mostly at truck stops at night. The back bench inside the van could be converted into a bed. I brought some sheets and a pillow from home, so it was ALMOST like sleeping in my own bed. It was just a little cramped because the length of the bed was too short for me, so I had to sleep diagonally to make me fit. But it was alright. The camper had even a fridge and a gas stove, so at night I was able to heat up some canned food which was great. The camper also had heating, so even with the engine off it never got cold inside. Though I had to tinker around with it to find the correct setting, because it was easier a little too cold or way too hot like in a Sauna. But I suppose those are luxury problems, when the temperature outside went down to 5°C at night. In summary, it was a really cool experience. It was probaly around Jump number 20. In AFF (Accelerated Freefall Training) those are the instructor jumps, where you basically already know how to safely skydive and the instructor helps you to correct smaller errors in your flying. This video shows my attempts at sitflying which is a kind of freeflying. The first jump was a training jump to prove to the trainer that I could sitfly and the second jump was a group jump. This Dropzone is in Bad Salgau in the south of Germany. I am wearing a pink rental helmet and a blue rental suit, but the camouflage parachute container is my own. Sadly I sold it a few years later when I stopped skydiving because it got a little too expensive. It was made with PFG‑01 holographic film and a red laser. I tuned the color of the hologram to green during the development process. I had sculpted 25 individual crocodile eye sculptures each at a different stage of opening. The goal was to make a hologram of each one and show them sequentially using a rotating device to create the illusion of a 3D crocodile eye unfolding. This experiment was part of my portfolio for an art university application, unfortunately it wasn’t accepted.
